Just smile and say hello... [27 Mar 2006|02:14pm]

Hi, my name's Emma and I've been a huge Marc/ Soft Cell fan since I saw the band on 'Top of the Pops' in the early eighties. Yes, I really am that old. Anyway, I went to Stand Bravely Brothers, which was a tribute to the work of Bertholt Brecht, and part of the Patti Smith-curated Meltdown festival in London last year, which was one of Marc's first public appearances since his accident. You can read my review of the whole thing here.

Hi Guys,

I haven't been on here much since my first entry about when I met Marc, but I finally had my photos developed of that day and I figured I's share! Nobody else is particularly interested in them but I'm sure you guys will be!

I've just this minute joined this community and I feel the need to say hi!

So here's my story...

Up until the day before yesterday, I'd never heard of Marc Almond *blushes*. Obviously I'd heard of Soft Cell but only the song, 'Tainted Love'.

I went to the Jools Holland gig in Bristol on Thursday night. My Uncle, Jon Scott is the lead trumpet in the band so I go backstage at all the gigs. We looked around for a room and we found one that had ‘Marc Almond’ written on the door. “MARC ALMOND?!?!” Screamed my Mum. “Um.. who?” was mine and Jo’s response. “You know that song, ‘Tainted Love’?” “OMG YESSSSS!” “Well, he’s the lead singer from the band that sang it, Soft Cell” I obviously thought that was awesome but just assumed that the sign was left up there from a previous gig or something. Then, just as we were leaving the room, this little, skinny guy with a shaved head who looked like a bit of a rocker turned around the corner with a huge suitcase. “Hiya Marc, y’alright?” said Jonny. I turned to look at my Mum and I could tell from the excitement/shock on her face that he was Marc Almond. ‘OMG WOW!!!’ I thought to myself. We then started walking into the girls’ room and Marc comes out, “Is this yours darling? Don’t lose that one!” “Oh.. Um.. Yeah.. No.. Right.. Thank you.” And Marc handed me my handbag. Marc Almond held my handbag. Oh Dear Lord. We then proceeded to the girls’ room. We got Ruby Turner’s, Sam Brown’s and Lisa Graham’s autographs and as we walked passed Marc’s room Jonny said, “Do you want his autograph?” “Wow, yeah!” “Go on then!” “Nooooo!!” “Why not?” “I’m shy, you do it” *knocks on door* “Hiya Marc, my niece is a bit shy” “Hiya. Can I please have your autograph?” “Of course you can darling, what’s your name?” My Mum was stood there, camera poised, and took my picture with the darling Marc Almond.

Sam Brown did her little bit and Jools went to introduce the second ‘special guest’ I assumed it was Ruby. “Mr Marc Almond” WHAT?! I was so thick, I never realised he was there to play with the band!! WOO!! He sang ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’ I’d never heard it before but it was pretty cool. Then, “I’m sure you’ve heard this song before but I can assure you’ve never heard it like this!” And he belted out ‘Tainted Love’ with the band. It was absolutely brilliant!! Heeeeee!! We’ve seen Marc Almond perform ‘Tainted Love’ as well as meeting him, getting his autograph, getting my photo taken with him and him giving me my handbag!!! WOOOOOO!!!

So that's how I have become obsessed with the man!

I'll post the picture of me with him when I get it developed...

x-posted like, everywhere. [23 Jul 2005|11:20pm]

Hello everybody.
I'm sorry this is a little off-topic, but, I'm trying my best to promote my book, Rose Petal Tea, which is set in the 80s, focusses on homosexuality, the AIDS virus, and was very much inspired by Soft Cell's music!

It's kinda large, so click here!Collapse )

I'm beginning to worry that it's not selling enough copies, which is bad considering I'm like, £600 in debt (probably more actually!), I have no job, and I have a lot of events coming up that require money...hense this promotion.

It could be that Indigo Sky (my second, and largest, project) may not get made at all unless this first novel sells more, so if you can do ANYTHING to help, even if it's just passing out links, handing out flyers, putting posters up, word of mouth, seriously ANYTHING, it would be the hugest help!

(For information, as the poster tells you: http://www.myspace.com/rosepetaltea :D
And for a better synopsis, and a sample of the first chapter, visit: http://www.authorsonline.co.uk/New/Synopsis.asp?eBookID=407)

Most of you probably know about this, but in case some of you arn't a member of the theatre, here's what Michelle sent out today:

24th March 2005

It has come to our attention that tickets are on sale for a Soft Cell
concert at Shepherds Bush Empire on 21 July. This concert is NOT happening.
As Marc is still recovering from his injuries he can only return to
performing when his doctors give him the all clear. Marc's management
agreed to the show in principal and would suggest it to Marc depending on
his doctors reports. As Marc has not recovered enough he is unable to
return to performing for the foreseeable future and will be unable to take
on a Soft Cell style show for at least 18 months. The show was shelved and
no contracts have been signed but the ticket agencies have decided to sell
tickets anyway. If you have already brought tickets please get a refund as
they have been sold under false pretences. This is not due to The Theatre
Of Marc Almond or Blue Star Music but we would like to apologise to any
fans that brought tickets in good faith. As we have said before, for major
announcements such as concerts, please always check The Theatre first.
Again, this show is NOT happening.

Best wishes
Theatre of Marc Almond

btw I don't think I've made an official 'hello all' post yet, so hello!

It could be said that I am shameless Marc Almond worshipper. Been bopping to softcell tracks since I was little, part of my childhood involves dancing to Tainted Love and swaying to wave hello goodbye as well as swooning to cheesy classics such as something's gotten hold of my heart in my mum's hairdressing salon while she created 80s hairstyles. We also bopped togther :P

I have seen Marc solo 3 times and once with Softcell at the first ever reunion gig at Hackney's Ocean.
First time I saw Marc was at the royal festial hall when Open All Night was released; second Softcell reunion gig, third Union Chapel and fourth at the Almeida last July [25th]. At all shows except for the royal festival hall one [13th row or something], I was in the first, second and third rows. Looking forward to seeing him again.

Everything about Marc rocks. And that's that. Amen.

Soft Cell inspired novel... [23 Mar 2005|10:25pm]

Hey Soft Cell fans...not posted much, have I?

I've been busy with this...
My debut novel, Rose Petal Tea, which is available to buy online (hense this post!)

For more info:

The book was HEAVILY inspired by Soft Cell music, and has been given good reviews already by other huge Soft Cell/Marc Almond fans, so give it a go :)

You can order the book for 9.99(UK)/14.95(US) via the following sites:

Or, alternatively, you can download it (at a price) as an e-book:

Thanks for your support in this novel, and sorry for the lack of updates- been incredibly busy with, sadly, non-fiction related work! :(

Please show your support by getting a copy as this book has been expensive to make and incredibly hard to promote, and if you are interested, then please, get a copy, or tell your friends. Every little helps, and I can't thank you enough :) <3

demo's and such. [18 Apr 2004|04:22pm]

Does anybody here know where I can download Soft Cell demos, and the stuff from 'Mutant Moments', etc?
I had them all, but due to an, uh, 'unfortunate incident', I lost them, so does anyone know where I can find them for sure? :)

I'm new to this community but loved softcell for ages, reaffirmed by seeing them play at UEA a while back. Inspired by Marc's tribut I downloaded some Jaques Brel from Kazaa- good stuff and an amazing voice x x x

An idea. [05 Apr 2003|05:31am]

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a Marc Almond community too?

Because this one's really quiet and he's a little underrated, it seems.

Just a suggestion... =)

Anyone willing to make one? I'd definately join...

Mambas Question... [01 Mar 2003|11:48pm]

Is that Mambas LP (I think it may have been a bootleg...) thing "bite black & blues" still available?

On anywhere besides Ebay, if possible, I can't use that site, and I know nobody with a credit card. Sad.

Anyway. I AM skint at the moment, so I'm not really sure why I'm asking...

But I'd love it. *L* So mabye that's why.

If anyone knows, please let me know, and I'll try and get money.. ;D
